This is an open course on urban activism based on the content from preparatory stage for CDN's (Cooperation and Development Network Eastern Europe) training for trainers Urban Steps for Resilient Future: Building Youth Activism in Eastern Europe. It is designed as a platform to get to know each other, share the stories of our cities, get informed about different urban challenges and get inspired about solutions together!
What makes a city a city?
The topic of this stage is "What makes a city a city?" and we aim to explore the understandings of main features of the city through several video and reading materials. Traditionally, you will have a weekly assignment waiting for you in the end. Ready? Let's go!
Cities - a global perspective
This stage we would like to focus on cities from a global perspective. What is the impact of globalisation on cities? How can global economics influence the very local aspects of a city? What are some of the issues that we simply cannot tackle on the local ground and what do we do about that?
This stage gathers several examples of urban interventions in different Eastern European cities. The cases are prepared by participants from CDN’s Urban Step for Resilient Future training that took place in Istanbul in April 2018. After reading the cases you will get a similar assignment that involves a bit of research on your local “good” and “bad” urban practices!
